Demonstrating mastery of the critical academic, career and social/emotional skills necessary for success in both the short and long term, students from Tubman have the grit and resilience needed to achieve success and reach their fullest potential.
The school counseling program at Tubman delivers intentional, individualized, evidenced-based, data-informed activities and interventions that remove academic, career and social/emotional barriers, helping all students reach proficiency in all subject areas.
About the Counselors:
Hello Tubman family, Ms. Irelan here. I am excited to be back for another great school year with all of our awesome student leaders! This year, I will be working with 4th-8th grade and am entering my 4th year as a school counselor and 11th in education. I am thrilled to introduce our new school counselor that will be working with our elementary student leaders in grades TK-3rd, Ms. Sotelo!
Hello, I am Ms.Sotelo and I am so happy to be a part of the Harriet Tubman Charter Village School Tiger family! I first started my journey as a preschool teacher. Then later I decided I wanted to give more back to my community and serve as an advocate for all students. I am very excited to start this new year and get to know all your students. We have a passion for students reaching their full potential. We are here to listen, advocate, and help give your students the skills they need to succeed.
When to refer a student:
Ms.Irelan and Ms. Sotelo are trained to provide short term, solution focused counseling as well as small groups varying in topics such as anxiety, conflict resolution, study/organization skills, anger management, calming down methods, career exploration, and many more. If you notice that your child is struggling in any of these areas in school, please contact your assigned counselor and we can work together to develop a plan to set up your student leader up for success. If you notice your child is struggling in these areas in the home, please contact us and we can refer you to outside resources.
